Forehead Lift Overview
Men and women between the ages of 40 and 60 are the most common brow lift patients, however there is no age limit for the procedure. Younger adults who have inherited conditions, such as low eyebrows or furrows above the nose, can also benefit from this procedure. These conditions create a tired or sad appearance; deep horizontal creases across the forehead (frown lines) between the eyebrows and sometimes across the top of the nose.
The first step is to set up a personal consultation with Dr. Hoffmann. During this meeting he will assess your physical and emotional health, and discuss your specific goals.
During your physical evaluation, your bone structure and the underlying tissues of the face will be assessed. The thickness, texture and elasticity of your skin, the muscle activity of your entire forehead and upper-eyelid region will be evaluated. These factors will be considered as they relate to the position of your eyebrows, including the amount of excess upper-eyelid skin and the height of your hairline. Sometimes patients who are bothered by excess skin in their upper eyelids don't realize that a sagging brow is contributing to that appearance.
Additional procedures can be performed along with a brow lift to meet your appearance goals, such as:
• Facelift, which removes excess skin and tightens muscles in the mid and lower face and neck
• Eyelid Lift, which removes excess skin overhang and minimize puffy bags beneath the eyes
The Procedure
The technique chosen for your surgery depends on your features and your desired results. There are several variations to the forehead lift procedure. Dr. Hoffmann will recommend the surgical technique that will obtain the best outcome for you.
The endoscopic brow lift is the most common technique used by Dr. Hoffmann. This procedure utilizes a long, thin tube with a light on the end, which is attached to a video camera. The endoscope is inserted through several small incisions in the scalp and allows the surgeon to see and work on the internal structures of the forehead.
Depending on your goals, Dr. Hoffmann may elect to perform a brow lift by making small incisions hidden in the natural forehead creases or in the hair line. Many times a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) will be done in conjunction with a brow lift for a complete upper facial rejuvenation!
Recovery
When your procedure is complete, your forehead will be taped and loosely wrapped to minimize swelling and bruising. You will be advised to keep your head elevated to reduce swelling. As the incisions heal, you may experience numbness and itching. This is normal and will diminish with healing.
