Eyelid Lift Overview
If you have noticed that your eyes are drooping and sagging, or that your upper lids look heavy with a tired or “angry” look, then eyelid lift surgery can help.

The Procedure
Eyelid surgery is a relatively straightforward procedure. Dr. Hoffmann will make a series of small incisions that follow the shape of your lids around your eye. The skin is lifted and fat deposits under it are eliminated. Then, the muscle and skin are tightened to form the new contour of your eyelids.

In some cases, transconjunctival eyelid surgery will be performed also. This procedure does not involve the removal of any skin under your eye. Dr. Hoffmann makes small incisions on the inner part of your lower eyelid and removes the fat that has accumulated there. Because the incisions are made on the inside of your lower lid, there will be no visible scars after this surgery.

Eyelid lift surgery usually takes a couple of hours and is performed on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia and calming relaxants. You may feel a little pressure during the procedure, but for the most part you will be quite relaxed and comfortable.

Recovery
You may experience some discomfort, but it is usually short lived and can be controlled with medication. Soothing ointment and dressing will be applied after surgery.

Some important steps to speed your recovery:

 • Prop a pillow behind your head to support it upright and help reduce any swelling
 • Use eye drops to soothe and moisten your eyelids
 • Protect your eyes from bright and direct sun light
 • Place cool washcloths on your eyes

Shortly, you will begin to notice an improvement in the way your eyes look. The benefits of having eyelid surgery will become obvious over the coming weeks and months as you heal. Serious complications are rare.

Potential Risks and Complications
You can expect some slight vision blurriness for a couple days following your surgery. This will correct itself. You may also feel some tightness or puffiness around your eyes, but this usually goes away in a short time.
