Chemical Peels

What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel uses exfoliating solutions to remove damaged or aged layers of skin to reveal the softer, more youthful skin underneath. There are three types of chemical peels. A superficial peel that is safe for all skin types and utilizes a mild solution. A medium peel goes one step further and uses a stronger solution that goes a level deeper. A deep peel is the the strongest and penetrates several layers of skin. This level is not recommended for dark skin as bleaching may occur.

How is a chemical peel performed?
Most chemical peel procedures begin by prepping the skin either with a skin care treatment or with microdermabrasion. Your skin is scrubbed and a mild toner, which is applied to remove oils before applying the acidic solution. The solution is left on your face for a certain period of time. Finally, your skin is wiped clean and an antibacterial cream is applied to help with comfort and healing.

What results should I expect?

The results of a chemical peel vary depending on your prescribed procedure. A superficial peel only slightly reduces the signs of aging and skin damage and the results are minimal. Medium peels are effective in reducing signs of sun damage and fine wrinkles. A deep peel noticeably tightens the skin and eliminates wrinkles and the effects are commonly most dramatic. Repeated deep peels are not recommended.

What it the recovery time for this procedure?
Recovery time after a chemical peel is dependant on the depth of your peel. Your skin may feel tight or sunburned. The proper skin care regimen is important to speed up the healing process, enhance results, prevent infection, and prevent skin color changes. Cleansing, moisturizing, and using sunscreen are highly recommended after a chemical peel. Avoid sun exposure during the early healing period.

Microdermabrasion

What is microdermabrasion?
It is the most natural way to evenly and safely exfoliate the skin without chemicals or a laser. The exfoliation process rejuvenates the skin by utilizing ultra-fine crystals to remove the upper layer of the epidermis. Studies have shown that microdermabrasion increases the production of collagen and elastin. The final result is firmer, more youthful looking skin.

What type of results can I expect?
In addition to surface exfoliation, microdermabrasion promotes the production of new cells in the basal (deepest) layer of the dermis. Microdermabrasion can minimize:

   • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
   • Acne & Scarring
   • Dull or Congested Skin
   • Enlarged Pores and Blemishes
   • Chickenpox Scars and Scratch Marks
   • Lighten Age or Sun Spots

What does the procedure involve?

The procedure involves spraying a fine jet of small crystals onto the skin, using a highly controlled vacuum, sweeping up the crystals and the top epidermal layer. It is an intense exfoliation process that rejuvenates the skin by utilizing ultra-fine sodium bicarbonate crystals to remove the upper layer of the stratum corneum. The technician controls the suction and level of spray. As microdermabrasion brushes away the damaged cell layers, it also stimulates the skin’s production of collagen and helps to maintain the elasticity of the skin and more youthful looking skin.

How many treatments are necessary and how often should microdermabrasion be preformed?
You will see results after the first treatment, however the most dramatic results will be seen between 3-6 treatments. Microdermabrasion is preformed once every 7-10 days for the first 4-5 treatments. From there a maintenance schedule of once every 4-6 weeks is usually recommended. Treatment plans vary according to individual goals.
